DAWSON CREEK -- Dawson Creek is inviting residents to ‘unleash’ their creativity in a new art contest that could see their artwork featured in the city’s highest level policy document.

“Whether it is a unique landmark or landscape, vibrant culture, or diverse people, we want you to showcase the beauty that binds us together,” said the city in a media release.

Residents of all ages are able to take part by submitting a drawing, painting, graphic design or photo that showcases a picture of what they love about Dawson Creek.

The theme for this year's contest is “Stable Roots, Vibrant Future.”

The winner will see their artwork featured in the city’s Official Community Plan, which serves as a guide for future decision making over the next 15 to 20 years.

They will also be recognized at a city council meeting in a photo opportunity with Mayor Darcy Dober.

The artwork will be judged on a number of criteria including theme relevance, a written narrative describing the work, the artistic approach taken, and submission quality.

Those interested in participating have until August 30th to submit their artwork online or in-person at city hall.

Full contest details can be found on the City of Dawson Creek website.
