FORT ST. JOHN -- An Evacuation Alert has been issued for the Blueberry River First Nations Saturday.

The Emergency Operations Centre issued the alert due to surrounding fires and heavy smoke.

Residents are being urged to gather personal belongings and medications and are being told to be ready to leave at a moments notice.

The evacuation point for the Evacuation Alert is the Blueberry Restoration Office.

The Donnie Creek Wildfire flared up on Friday. It is burning out of control near the Beatton River and has grown to 3 hectares in size.

The fire was discovered just after noon on Friday. According the BC Wildfire Service it was caused by a dry lightning strike, which means it occurred without rain nearby.
