POUCE COUPE -- Witnesses describe chaos at the end of a special meeting about library funding in Pouce Coupe Thursday.

According to witnesses who spoke with CJDC-TV News, Mayor Danielle Veach could be heard behind closed doors allegedly threatening a councillor with a lawsuit for colluding with the media and former mayor Lorraine Michetti.

Mayor Veach called a special meeting amid on-going concerns from residents over funding cuts to the Pouce Coupe Public Library.

During the meeting, the mayor and council brought forward a revised budget that saw funding totaling just over $116,000 approved through a majority council vote. Mayor Veach did abstain from the vote.

The amount includes funding from the Village and provincial library grants that have been carried over from last year.

Provincial funding is contingent on a 2023 financial statement being sent to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs by May 15, 2024.

Pouce Coupe is currently in the process of approving its budget.

In the latest draft, residents could see a year-over-year tax increase of 10 per cent until 2028.

The Village of Pouce Coupe will hold their next council meeting to discuss the budget on May 1st, 2024.
