FORT NELSON -- The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will host a meeting to provide post-evacuation information following the return of residents to Fort Nelson.

The meeting will cover topics related to last month's evacuation order including the roles and responsibilities of responders, government, and support services.

Members of the BC Wildfire Service, the RCMP, Fire Rescue, and local council will be in attendance to provide information and take questions.

The meeting will take place on June 12th at 6:00 pm inside the Northern Rockies Regional Recreation Centre Community Hall off the Alaska Highway in Fort Nelson.

The municipality is asking those interested in attending to submit questions in advance by contacting communications@northernrockies.ca by June 7th, 2024.

On May 10th, the municipality issued an evacuation order due to the threat posed by the Parker Lake Wildfire.

The evacuation order forced the community of over 3000 to seek refuge in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Chetwynd where Emergency Support Services assisted evacuees.

The order was rescinded just over two weeks later on May 27th, with guidelines set out by the municipality to ensure the safety of both residents and surrounding First Nations.
