FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. - The City of Fort St. John is lending a helping hand to communities in southern British Columbia as wildfire activity continues to strain emergency response across the province.
According to the city, several employees were deployed to support wildfire and emergency operations in affected areas.
A deputy fire chief recently completed a deployment serving as an Incident Safety Officer, while two Fort St. John firefighters completed tours on the wildfire front lines.
The city’s Emergency Support Services director and director of community services are also wrapping up a deployment supporting ESS operations at the North Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centre in Prince George.
Ryan Harvey, communications manager for the City of Fort St. John, said the deployments highlight the community’s commitment to helping other regions during times of crisis.
“Fort St. John is proud to support provincial emergency response efforts when and where assistance is needed,” said Harvey . “Our staff bring valuable expertise and experience to these deployments, and we’re grateful for their willingness to step away from their regular duties to help communities facing significant challenges from wildfires.”
The assistance comes as numerous communities across southern B.C. continue to deal with the impacts of active wildfires, including evacuations, emergency operations and ongoing firefighting efforts.
Harvey said the city’s involvement reflects a provincewide approach to emergency management, where communities work together to ensure resources are available where they are needed most.
“Our employees are highly trained professionals who are committed to public service,” he said. “Whether they’re supporting wildfire operations on the ground or helping coordinate emergency services, their work contributes to protecting people and communities across British Columbia.”
While deployed employees assist elsewhere in the province, the City of Fort St. John says it continues to maintain local emergency response capabilities to serve residents at home.
