CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. - Two Charlie Lake Fire Department members and a tactical tender have been sent to assist BC Wildfire Service crews battling wildfires in the Merritt area.
The Peace River Regional District says the Charlie Lake Fire Department deployed Tactical Tender 1 and two firefighters on August 8 to support ongoing wildfire suppression efforts in the Merritt region at the request of the BC Wildfire Service.
According to the regional district, Lt. Chris Pelly and Lt. Miranda Moineau have been assigned to a 14-day deployment and will work alongside crews from across British Columbia helping fight wildfires and protect communities affected by the ongoing wildfire season.
The deployment is part of a provincewide mutual aid system that allows fire departments to provide personnel and equipment when additional resources are needed to support emergency response efforts.
Brad Sperling, Chair of the Peace River Regional District board, praised the firefighters for stepping up to assist.
“Chris and Miranda are great representatives of the Charlie Lake Fire Department and our community,” Sperling said. “We’re proud to see them taking their skills and experience where they’re needed most. We wish them a safe deployment and thank them for their commitment to helping others.”
The regional district noted that fire protection and emergency response services in Charlie Lake and the surrounding area will continue as normal while the firefighters are away on assignment.
