FORT ST. JOHN - Two people remain in critical condition following a serious crash in Fort St. John last week.

The crash happened on June 24, sending multiple people to hospital and prompting an outpouring of support from the community.

Among those most seriously injured is two-year-old Luis Illenseer, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and multiple broken bones. He was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, where he remains in a medically induced coma.

His mother, Marika, was also hospitalized following the crash, while two other children involved sustained minor injuries.

Also in critical condition is Fort St. John welder Logan Sims, who suffered multiple skull fractures and severe brain swelling. He was airlifted to Edmonton, where he also remains in a medically induced coma.

Logan family says they are taking the situation one day at time as he continues to receive treatment. “Tomorrow is unknown. Right now, we are holding onto hope, praying for a miracle, and taking each day as it comes.”

GoFundMe support

Two GoFundMe campaigns have been launched to support the families through extended hospital stays and related costs.

The fundraiser for the Illenseer family aims to help cover travel, accommodation, lost income, and other expenses while Luis remains in Vancouver. It has raised tens of thousands of dollars toward its goal.

A second campaign, titled Logan’s Road to Recovery, has also raised significant funds to support Sims and his family as he continues treatment in Edmonton.
