CHETWYND -- Northern Health is advising residents of multiple emergency department diversions impacting residents of Chetwynd and Prince George.

In Chetwynd, a diversion began at 12:00 p.m. Friday July 5th and will continue until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday July 6th.

The hospital is dealing with challenges with physician coverage, according to Northern Health.

The emergency room was also forced to close from 4:00pm until 8pm yesterday for the same reason.

Today’s closure marks the 18th diversion for the hospital in the last six months.

The health authority also announced a diversion of the ER in Fort Nelson.

The closure began at 4:00 a.m. this morning and will not reopen until 7:00 a.m. Saturday July 6th.

Northern Health is citing a shortage of emergency trained nursing staff for the closure.

Patients in both towns will be transferred to the nearest available hospital.
