DAWSON CREEK -- The Dawson Creek and District Hospital has received an upgrade to its medical imaging services.

A new X-ray machine is now in service at the hospital, replacing an 11-year-old model that Northern Health says was difficult to operate and prone to maintenance issues.

The Carestream Evolution machine will give radiologists better image quality and increased reliability to diagnose broken bones, infection, or find foreign objects in the body.

Northern Health says that will lead to shorter result downtime, decreasing wait times for patients.

The upgrades began in October 2023 with the purchase of the machine, followed by room renovations and installation.

Northern Health says the total project cost was approximately $482,700.
