DAWSON CREEK -- The City of Dawson Creek will be activating it’s Emergency Warming Shelter as temperatures plummet across the region.

The Nawican Shelter will be open 24 hours a day this week, starting February 26th until March 4th.

The shelter will have space to accommodate 30 people with heat, snacks, and warm drinks in an effort to protect vulnerable residents amid the bitter cold.

The shelter is located at 1401 102 Ave in Dawson Creek.

Those interested in volunteering or donating to the warming shelter are asked to call (778) 843-1722.

In Fort St. John, both the Salvation Army and Northern Health will operate emergency warming shelters.

The Salvation Army location is open 24 hours a day, while the Northern Health centre is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
