FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. --  CJDC TV requesting the inspection report from WorkSafe B.C. following a Fort St. John work place incident earlier this month.

The redacted report says the injury occurred while a scissor lift was being loaded onto a truck deck.

WorkSafe B.C. says they started inspecting a work site along the Alaska Highway Frontage Road on May 5. They say the tow truck operator and an equipment mechanic were trying to move the lift when it tipped, injuring one worker.

WorkSafe redacted the name of the worker. However the report says, they were not wearing proper protection required for loading the lift.

The RentCo Equipment Ltd lift was being removed from a hotel construction site due to a mechanical failure. According to Work Safe, it's believed the wheels were having difficulty turning.

The inspection report says “The regulation provides an exemption for a worker to not use fall protection in a scissor lift under specific conditions. The unit must be on a firm level surface with no irregularities to cause platform instability. Being towed onto a deck of a truck and the wheels not free wheeling placed the unit in a position that caused platform instability as in this situation when the unit fell off the deck of the truck.”

The report says, even though there was a mechanical failure an inspection should've happened prior to attempting to move the lift. WorkSafe B.C. also saying  “they hadn't completed a daily inspection as per the manufacturers requirements.”
