FORT ST. JOHN -- A wind warning remains in effect for much of the Peace Region Monday. Environment Canada says the region is getting hit with winds approaching 100 kilometres per hour.

In Fort St. John, wind gusts severely damaged the sign outside of the Pomeroy Sport Centre. Ryan Harvey with the City of Fort St. John says no injuries have been reported.

The intersection at 93 Avenue and 96th Street was closed while city crews removed the damaged sign.

According to Environment Canada, wind speeds have reached 91 kilometers per hour. The heavy winds are expected to last into Monday evening with top gusts reaching 90 km/hr.

Harvey says the sign is approaching 14 years of age. He added the city at this point, doesn’t have an idea what it will cost to repair or replace it.
