A wildfire is burning out of control near the Pine River, just over 10 kilometres southwest of Chetwynd.

The fire was discovered shortly after 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.

It is currently eight hectares in size.

There are currently no evacuation orders in place for the area, but drivers have reported feeling the heat from the flames.

There are now road closures in place along Highway 97 in both directions past Dokie Siding as crews perform an assessment.

Motorists are being asked to monitor DriveBC for updates.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is suspected to be human caused.
