PRESPATOU -- A wildfire burning that was burning out of control 15 kilometres east of Prespatou has been downgraded.

The fire was discovered July 1st and was burning within a forested area in Altona, east of the Beatton River.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has confirmed the fire is now listed as being held.

The blaze grew to just under 25 hectares in size before being contained.

According to the BCWS, crews are making good progress towards full suppression efforts.

Teams has established hose lays and are putting out hotspots, while falling damaged ‘danger’ trees.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by a lightning strike.
