CHETWYND -- A wildfire has broken out south of Highway 97 near the Hasler Creek Forest Service Road.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was reported just before 10am on Friday. It is burning out of control 20 kilometres southwest of Chetwynd.
The fire is burning out of control and has grown to 8 hectares in size. It's believed to be human caused.
A BC Wildfire Service Officer is being sent to the scene to assess the fire, the resources required and determine appropriate actions that need to be taken.
“Current conditions in the Peace Region are unseasonably warm and dry. Combined with the high winds in the region, they may impact fire behaviour and suppression efforts,” said BC Wildfire.
“It is not uncommon to see fires start at any time of year if the site conditions, including weather, snowpack, amount of fuel available in the area, are conducive to ignition and spread,” said BC Wildfire.
