If you need a place to cool off during this week’s heat warning, there are options all around the Peace Region.

In Dawson Creek, cool spaces have been set up for Wednesday and Thursday at the Obair Economic Society (open 8:30am – 3:30pm) and at the Nawican Bergeron Youth and Cultural Centre (open 12pm – 6pm). Free water is also available at those locations.

Other public spaces available include the Mile 0 Splash Park (open 10:30am to 8pm), the Wayne and Bev Dahlen Walking Track (open 9am – 6pm) and the Dawson Creek Public Library (open 9:30am to 7pm).

In Fort St. John, you can head to the North Peace Leisure Pool and the Pomeroy Sport Centre. The pool is open from 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm on Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sunday. The Pomeroy Sport Centre is open 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday.

In Chetwynd, the Rec Centre is open to the public from 6:30am to 9:30am Monday to Friday, and 10am to 5:30pm Saturday and Sunday.

In Tumbler Ridge, the Community Center has set up a cooling centre in Room 4. The District says it will be open during the hottest parts of the day, but times may vary. On Wednesday it will operate from 12pm to 6pm.

Pouce Coupe has invited residents to cool down at the Firehall or at the Village Office. Water will be available at both locations. The Firehall’s cooling centre is open until 6pm on Wednesday, and sprinklers will be set up from 12pm to 4pm.
