Heavier commercial vehicles are now permitted to cross the Sikanni Chief Bridge.
The weight limit for the bridge is now 63,500kg. Previously, only commercial vehicles weighing 15,500kg or less could cross the bridge.
The Sikanni Chief Bridge is located near kilometer 256 of the Alaska Highway. It sustained extensive damage after a fuel tanker truck overturned and caught fire in late August. Three out of the bridge’s five spans were affected.
The speed limit on the bridge is 30km/hr, and single-lane alternating traffic is in place.
