DAWSON CREEEK -- A violent home invasion in Dawson Creek sent one person to hospital.

Dawson Creek RCMP say officers responded to a break and enter in progress in the 1500 block of 107th Avenue just before 8pm Thursday.

Witnesses tell CJDC TV News that at least three people entered the residence with guns drawn. There were three people at home at the time.

Police say the homeowner was assaulted by one of assailants. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A family member said he has since been released.

Mounties say the suspects then stole of pick-up truck from the residence.

The vehicle was disabled by the On-Star system onboard. Police say the suspects left the vehicle in a field near Rolla. The suspects fled the scene on foot.

There was heavy police presence near Coleman Creek Road. Officers from Dawson Creek were joined by members from the Spirit River and Beaverlodge RCMP detachments.

A police K-9 unit joined the search for the suspects. A homeowner told CJDC TV News that police told him to go home, lock the doors to his house and make sure his vehicles were locked.

At around 6:30 Friday morning, police arrested three suspects. Their names cannot be released until they are formally charged.

Dawson Creek RCMP say that this was a targeted incident and there is no risk to the public.

Mounties are continuing their investigation.
