FORT ST. JOHN -- A Victoria-based animal rescue group has stepped in to save 14 cats left stray in Fort St. John.
The North Peace Forgotten Felines Society, facing financial constraints, was forced to close their intake at the end of August, leaving the cats in need of new homes.
The society’s owner reached out to Broken Promises Rescue in Victoria, who agreed to take on the felines. To facilitate the transport, the organization contacted a Canada-wide animal rescue group, which arranged for the cats to be chartered from Fort St. John to Boundary Bay Airport, a nearly two-hour flight.
Canadian Wings of Rescue (CWOR), utilizing their network of volunteer pilots, played a crucial role in facilitating the move.
Fraser Hall, a pilot from Vancouver, successfully transported the cats on Monday, September 16th, 2024, where they were met by a representative from Broken Promises Rescue.
“One reason CWOR was founded is to help ensure that long distances are never a barrier to adoption. Through our network of pilots, we help transport animals and wildlife to care and forever homes that may not otherwise be realistic,” said Cheryl Brean, Communications Director.
The charity noted that this trip was one of the largest they have ever coordinated, emphasizing that long distances should never be a barrier to adoption.
The rescue effort has given the 14 cats a second chance at finding their forever homes.
