DAWSON CREEK -- A wildfire that was burning out of control 38 kilometres west of Dawson Creek is now listed as being held.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was discovered just before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the South End of 263 Road near Groundbirch.

A full response team was on scene battling the fire that is now measured at 7.85 hectares in size.

The Prince George Fire Centre says the fire occurred on a plot of farmland close to structures, but the fire was contained before any of the structures could be threatened.

No evacuation orders or area restrictions were in place for the area during the time of the fire.

Wind gusts nearing 50 kilometres and hour were fanning the flames of the fire that is suspected to be human caused.
