FORT ST. JOHN --  A wildfire that was burning out of control 80 kilometres northeast of Fort St. John is now listed as being held.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire was discovered near Beaver Creek Road at around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire has since forged a path 17 hectares in size.

The Price George Fire Centre says a paraattack and initial attack crews responded to the blaze.

No structures have been damaged as a result of the fire, according to the centre.

The fire centre adds that bucketing operations have also been carried out.

It is unclear how the blaze started but the B.C. Wildfire Service says it is suspected to be human caused.

The fire is burning north of the Doig River approximately 30 kilometers east of Prespatou.
