FORT ST. JOHN -- Two Peace Region families are facing uncertainty after a missing dog was found this week near Mile 95 of the Alaska Highway.

They Golden Retriever resembles the dog of a hunter missing near Chetwynd. Jim Barnes and his dog Murphy, were reported missing on October 18th after failing to return from a hunting trip in the Groundbirch area.

There was a lot of confusion and speculation on social media Friday, as a similar looking dog was also reported missing on November 16th.

Peanut was last seen near Beatton Provincial Park, north of Fort St. John. According to social media posts that CJDC TV News was unable to verify, the dog was taken to a veterinarian in Fort St. John to be treated and identified.

Peanut’s owner saying in a post on Facebook that she doesn't believe the dog found is Peanut. At this point, it remains unclear who the dog belongs to.

Since Barnes and Murphy went missing almost 200 kilometres away from where the dog was found, police and search teams from across the province have scoured the area. They've been unsuccessful in finding the outdoorsman and his dog.

CJDC TV New reached out to the Chetwynd RCMP to ask if they had information on who the dog may belong to. There was no confirmation that they were aware of.
