The University of Northern British Columbia is receiving a grant to improve health care for Indigenous people.
Indigenous Services Canada is donating $1 million over two years to an initiative called the Hearts-based Education and Anticolonial Learning health care project, or “HEAL”.
The project's goal is to train healthcare students and professionals in better treatment for Indigenous people. That includes recognizing Indigenous knowledge, adopting anti-colonial approaches in health service, and eliminating anti-Indigenous racism.
The project is part of the federal government’s plan to create better and safer health systems for Indigenous people. $126.7 million has been committed over 3 years.
