DAWSON CREEK -- An event will be held in Prince George to address the drug-related issues faced in Central and Northern B.C. The 2024 Mental Health and Addictions Symposium will be held next week.

The event brings together various organizations and local governments. They're looking to address the mental health and addiction crisis.

According to the B.C. Coroners Service at least 1,749 have died from toxic and unregulated drugs in B.C. so far in the year. Northern Health reported one of the highest rates of drug-related deaths in B.C. for the month of September. According to the report, there were 4.3 drug fatalities per 100,000 people.

So far Dawson Creek Mayor Darcy Dober, along with two council members have been approved to attend the event. But they haven't confirmed their attendance.

The event will take place in Prince George on November 13th and 14th. It is co-hosted by NCLGA, and the communities of the Lheidli T'enneh, the City of Prince George, and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
