FORT ST. JOHN -- A suspect connected to an armed robbery in Fort St. John has been apprehended in Fox Creek, Alberta.
Early Tuesday morning, just after 6:00 a.m., RCMP responded to a robbery in progress at a hotel in the 8500 block of Alaska Road North. The suspect allegedly entered the hotel brandishing a large knife, threatened the desk clerk, and demanded cash.
Police did not name the hotel, however calls put in by CJDC-TV have confirmed the incident occured at the Howard Johnson Hotel located at 8540 Alaska Road North.
According to the detachment, the suspect then took a set of keys and fled the hotel in a stolen vehicle, heading south on Highway 97.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left, and subsequent patrols in the area did not locate the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle’s make and model were not disclosed.
Later that day, at 4:00 p.m., Fort St. John RCMP were informed by Alberta RCMP that the stolen vehicle had been found and the suspect arrested.
The individual is currently being held in Alberta on charges of robbery and breach of probation.
The suspect’s name has not been released as charges are yet to be formally approved. Police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.
