DAWSON CREEK -- There was a heavy police presence in Dawson Creek Thursday morning, in and around the 7-11 parking lot on 8th Street.

Dawson Creek RCMP couldn’t comment on the matter as the case has been turned over to the Independent Investigations Office of BC. (I.I.O.)

Witnessed told CJDC TV News that a person was seen laying on the ground trying to kick a police officer.

It’s unclear what happened next, but witnesses say a person who appeared to be a police officer, could then be seen doing chest compressions on someone laying on a stretcher.

Two ambulance were at the scene. The person was taken to hospital, however the condition of the individual is not known.

The I.I.O has sent investigators to Dawson Creek. A spokesperson told CJDC TV News, ‘the individual is still alive.”

The I.I.O. investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

More information maybe released about the case on Friday.
