FORT ST. JOHN, BC -- Site C hit a significant milestone over the weekend, as the final turbine runner arrived at the site on Friday morning.

The turbine runner is the rotating part of the turbine, which converts falling water into energy that will power a generator to create electricity. The 165,000kg unit was transported 11,000 kilometers from Sao Paolo, Brazil. That includes being transported by truck for the final 1000km leg from the Port of Prince Rupert to the dam site.

Six turbine runners have been transported to the site since early 2021. They are the heaviest unassembled components of the Site C project.

BC Hydro says the dam’s reservoir could be filled by as early as this fall. The entire project is over 70 per cent complete. All six generating units are scheduled to be operational by November 2025.
