FORT ST. JOHN -- The Ride Sharing app, Coastal Rides, is expected to launch on Tuesday, allowing residents to book a ride on their phones.

Coastal Rides became the first ride-sharing app on the Sunshine Coast. It now operates in Comox, Campbell River, Vancouver Island and other cities.

The company announced their plans to launch in Fort St. John in September.

The city’s lack of taxis have been a major concern over the past few years.

Some residents said they’ve had to wait up to 3 hours for a cab.

Last month, the BC Passenger Transportation Branch issued 3 new taxi licenses for Super Cabs.

Fort St. John will be the first city in Northeast BC to have access to Coastal Rides.

Riders can download the app or use the website for bookings. They can also pay for their ride online.
