FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- North Peace Regional Airport giving the red ribbon treatment to its newly upgraded runway.

Dignitaries from the City of Fort St. John were on hand to re-open runway 03/21.

Construction started in July on the nearly $15,000,000 upgrade.

Repairs to the 23 year old runway saw new asphalt, electrical work and L.E.D lighting installed.

This project has been in the works since 2017 and officially started planning in May of 2021.

Half of The project was funded by Transport Canada and the Northern Development Initiative Trust, contributing over $8.2 million in grants.

YXJ airport's second runway remained fully operational throughout the construction period.
