FORT ST JOHN -- The Fort St. John RCMP have released more information after receiving reports of shots fired in a residential area.
According to Mounties, the incident happened at a home on 112th Ave. They say the caller stated that at approximately 5:30 a.m, a popping sound was heard and then discovered what appeared to be bullet holes in the house. It was also reported that another house in the area also had bullet holes.
Police say they know the second residence and believe the shots originated from this home. Police entered the second home where they found four people, none of whom were injured. The four were detained; however, they did not say the charges.
Police say they have learned that an unknown person forced their way into the home and fired multiple shots. They have also obtained video surveillance, which shows four individuals leaving in a white pickup truck, immediately following the shots being fired. They further state there has been no evidence found to indicate anyone has been shot. Two of those four suspects have potentially been identified; however, it is not known who may have been the intended target, explained police.
The City of Fort St. John also released a statement on their social media page following the incident. They say they “are deeply concerned about the reported shooting incident” and they “want to assure you that your safety is our top priority.” According to the statement, they are actively looking into the tools available to municipalities, through applicable Provincial Legislation and our Bylaws, to deal with nuisance and dangerous properties.
