Prolonged periods of heavy rain are expected in the Peace Region this weekend.

40 to 60mm of rain is expected in the North and South Peace River areas. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in regions near the Rockies.

The rain will start late Friday afternoon and persist into Saturday night.

The rain is due to a weather system that will become stalled over northeastern BC.

Environment Canada notes that heavy rainfall on top of pre-existing saturated soils can exacerbate vulnerable landscapes and enhance the risk of localized flooding.
