DAWSON CREEK -- The Dawson Creek Fire Department was called to a fire at the Mile Zero Apartment Hotel early Thursday morning.

Firefighters rushed to the scene on102nd Avenue just after 1:45am. They arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the building.

Firefighters entered a room that was on fire. They quickly knocked down the flames.

In the room, they found an unconscious man and worked feverishly to revive him.

The man was taken to Dawson Creek hospital, then airlifted to another facility. It is unknown at this time, where the man was flown to or the extent of his injuries.

Dawson Creek Fire Chief Marcel Capelle said firefighters did a great job of rescuing the man.

“Two or three more minutes and the entire hotel could have been engulfed in flames,” said Capelle.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
