CHETWYND -- The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has announced a new recycling initiative aimed at reducing pollution from the improper disposal of used oil and antifreeze products.

Starting September 30th, residents will be able to turn in antifreeze, motor oil, hydraulic fluids, and their containers at the Chetwynd Landfill and Hudson’s Hope Transfer Station.

The service is a collaboration between the PRRD and Interchange Recycling.

“Recycling is the most efficient and cost-effective way to reclaim the value of automotive materials like oil,” said the PRRD in a release.

The initiative aims to extend the life of non-renewable resources and prevent hazardous waste from entering the region’s water systems and landfills.

A full list of products now being accepted is available on the Interchange Recycling website.
