POUCE COUPE -- Pouce Coupe taxpayers are off the hook when it comes to the cost of repairs to the lagoon in Pouce Coupe, which have now reached $3 million.

The news was announced on Wednesday night's council meeting.

Mayor Danielle Veach says the entire project will now be covered by grant money. She also stresses that this will help the Village of Pouce Coupe continue economic development.

Mayor Veach and council successfully lobbied at the Union of B.C. Municipalities in September. The grant was then made possible through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.

The lagoon was affected after the 2016 floods, and the impact turned out to be worse than anyone expected, along with the costs.

As for now, a team is working to stabilize the lagoon until the end of the month. Work is expected to pick up again in the spring.
