A local woman found what she believes may be dog remains on a trail in the Bear Mountain area.

The SPCA have been investigating the area near Radar Lake after receiving a report at the end of May. They say an officer found 5 bodies of what could be either dogs or coyotes.

The SPCA say the remains have been there for several months. Because the remains are so decomposed, it likely won’t be possible to identify them.

However, the area is a known dumping ground. When Hannah Townsend went there with her own dogs, she saw a carcass and several sets of leg bones. She also found some garbage and a receipt from Walmart with the last 4 digits of a credit card on it.

“For other people going up there, it would probably be a little bit disturbing,” says Townsend. “I feel bad for whoever’s animals they are, if they are someone’s dogs.”

“At this point, forensically, there’s just not very much there to work with,” says SPCA spokesperson Alex Schare. “So I don’t think, without further information, we would be able to take it much further.”

However, Schare added anyone who might have more information about this case should contact the SPCA.
