HUDSON'S HOPE, BC -- As the weather begins to warm up, there is still danger in the backcountry from melting snow and ice. Hudson’s Hope police are asking the public to be careful when going out ice fishing.

The warning comes after an incident on Tuesday, January 10th, when police received a report of two ATVs which had fallen through the ice into Williston Lake. RCMP say two people were heading out ice fishing and hit a thin section of ice.

Luckily, the two individuals did not fall through, and were not injured. However, both ATVs were submerged and had to be retrieved from the water.

Police are reminding the public that ice can vary in thicknesses even within short distances. Always test the ice as you go, and bring safety equipment with you.
