CHARLIE LAKE -- One person is dead following a head-on collision in Charlie Lake.

Fort St. John RCMP, Fire and the BC Ambulance Service responding to reports of a two-vehicle crash with unknown injuries near the Shepherd's Inn on Highway 97 at approximately 5:35 p.m. Monday evening.

The driver of one of the vehicles was declared deceased at the scene, while the second driver was transported to hospital in Fort St. John for treatment.

The extent of their injuries remains unclear.

The highway was shut down for approximately seven hours while the North District RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit assisted with the investigation.

According to RCMP, alcohol and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the incident.

An investigation remains ongoing with police asking anyone with information to contact the Fort St. John Detachment at 250-787-8100.
