FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- After three years of hearing and seeing cars blow past him at kin park, Damian Stepski and his wife Margaret decided to do something about it.

"Might as well put signs down every 30 or 40ft. A lot of them still don't even get it. People should know better."

For the last three summers, Stepski has put the signs up. Even with the bright red "30 "or the loud "SLOW DOWN" message, its the same problem.

93rd Street from Northern Lights drive, until about 115th Avenue is a marked playground zone, where from dawn until dusk, all year round, drivers must go 30km/hr.

Both Damian and his wife Margaret see cars coming by on a daily basis, hitting speeds they say are more than doubled the posted limits. Cpl. Madonna Saunderson say in a playground zone, kids aren't necessarily looking around for cars.

"It's very important that we as drivers are continually aware of what's around us and where we are, and certainly drive accordingly and be aware of children that may suddenly pop up where you are."

The Stepski's put the signs up so a child or parent isn't killed, and their message to drivers... slow down.

"I don't understand why people are speeding. Either they don't see the signs, or they just simply ignore it. Those kids they run through those roads and they go back home, they drive their bicycles, there's so many trees, they can just jump out of the tree, get on the road, and if somebody is driving 70 and 80 that can end tragically." Margaret Stepski said.

Corporal Saunderson says if you think you see a speeding vehicle in a playground zone, you can write down the license plate and give the information to your local RCMP detachment.
