FORT ST. JOHN -- A person has died after being hit by a vehicle north of Fort St. John Friday evening.

According to Fort St. John RCMP, two people were hitchhiking on Prespatou Road north of 264 Road when they were hit by an oncoming vehicle. Police received the report at 6 p.m. Friday.

Police say the deceased person was walking on the centre line of the roadway when they were hit. It's unclear if the other individual suffered any injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Eyewitnesses say it appeared to be a senior couple who was driving the vehicle. There will be no charges laid in connection to the incident.

It comes after two pedestrians were killed in the last two weeks. Police are reminding drivers to be mindful when driving at night.
