FORT ST. JOHN -- Fort St. John RCMP have confirmed that the pedestrian involved in a traffic accident yesterday has died.

On Tuesday at 1:26pm, police were called to 96th Street and 96th Avenue to assist BC Ambulance Service with a single vehicle/pedestrian collision. At the time, paramedics were treating an unresponsive adult pedestrian who was hit by a pickup truck at the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital in critical condition. They later succumbed to their injuries. The family has been notified.

The driver of the truck remained on the scene following the accident and was cooperative with the investigation by frontline officers, the Serious Crimes Unit, and the Traffic Reconstruction Unit.

Police say driver impairment was not the cause of the collision.
