CHETWYND -- Peak Renewables has announced its acquisition of the Chetwynd Pulp Mill.

The mill was previously owned by Paper Excellence. It was shut down in 2015, resulting in the loss of over 100 jobs, and has not operated since.

Peak Renewables plans to remediate the mill site, and repurpose the surrounding land and buildings for other industrial uses.

Peak Renewables also announced their plan to pursue new development in partnership with local First Nations. Chief Justin Napoleon of Saulteau First Nations stated, “We are working with Peak on the site cleanup, and we very much look forward to helping Peak develop new opportunities for sustainable economic development at the site.”
