PRINCE GEORGE -- The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has announced that restrictions on Category 2 and 3 open burning have been lifted in certain areas of the Prince George Fire Centre.
The change will affect Mackenzie, Prince George, and the Stuart Nechako Forest District, where burning concurrent piles is now permitted.
Additionally, bans on burning stubble or grass smaller than 0.2 hectares and one or more windrows will also be rescinded.
However, according to the BCWS, due to ongoing drought conditions, high-grass fire hazards, and the risk of human-caused fires, restrictions will remain in place in the Fort Nelson and Peace Forest Districts.
Bans in Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek, and Fort St. John are scheduled to be lifted on October 15 or until the order is rescinded.
“Engage in safe open burning practices only when and where permitted and ensure you are properly prepared and aware of the conditions,” said the BCWS.
The service adds it is 'critical' that residents stay informed about the specific bans in their area before lighting any fires.
