FORT ST. JOHN -- Northern Health is opening a temporary overdose prevention site and warming centre in Fort St. John.

They say the temporary site is expected to open at the end of November or early December. This site will be located at the new Fort St. John Health Services Centre, on 10067 100th Ave. It’s the same location where the Fort St. John warming centre was previously operated by the City/Urban Matters.

It’s planned to be open Monday to Friday from 8:30a.m to 4:30 p.m. It includes an Indoor substance use space, outdoor inhalation area, referrals to treatment options and harm reduction services. There will also be an Intensive Case Management Team on-site with registered nurses, mental health and substance use clinicians, life skills workers and others.

The warming centre will offer a warm space to come during the day, with hot food and drinks available.

It’s a part of the new Fort St. John Health Services Centre, which is set to open in 2024. An announcement will be made closer to the date of the exact timing. Additional services may also be added following the initial launch.
