FORT ST. JOHN -- The North Peace Museum in Fort St. John will be receiving a sustainable upgrade impart to new provincial funding.

The museum, located on 100thStreet, has been awarded a grant of just over $42,000 for the installation of rooftop solar panels.

Grant funding for the project is being provided by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs’ Community Gaming Grant that provides non-profit organizations across the province with funding for capital projects.

“These grants are vital because they support projects that make the amazing work non-profits do in our communities possible,” said Megan Dykeman, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development and Non-profits.

This year, just over $492,000 was awarded for eight projects across Northern B.C of the $140 million in funding provided for the grant, according to the province.

Of the $140 million, only 5.2 million has been allocated so far and is being shared with 62 organizations across the province, including the initiatives in Northern B.C.

The Community Gaming Grant funds projects and initiatives in the arts and culture, sports, human and social services, public safety and environmental conservation sectors, as well as parent advisory councils in B.C. schools.

There is currently no timeline as to when the museum will see the new solar upgrades.
