Firefighters continue to make progress on the Bearhole Lake fire burning east of Tumbler Ridge.

The wildfire is still burning around 6,600 hectares, but the evacuation alert at Kelly Lake has been lifted.

Crews have conducted a planned ignition operation on the north flank. That ignition was 80 hectares in size, and helped bring the fire to pre-determined control lines.

Firefighters are also continuing containment operations at the Kiskatinaw Forest Service Road. They are hosing down hot spots to limit fire growth to the south.

Fire crews are also removing fuel on the east side of the fire near Highway 52, and hosing down the flames there.

Windy conditions could increase fire behavior today, but no significant growth is expected. Smoky skies from the Bearhole Lake fire as well as the Battleship Mountain fire are likely to persist across the Peace Region for the next 24 to 48 hours.
