A youth is in custody after Peace River RCMP investigated online threats directed at local schools.

Mounties say the arrest was made Thursday afternoon in connection with a TikTok account that implied a possible school attack. Police say the youth admitted to owning the account and is expected to be charged with uttering threats. Charges, however, have not yet been sworn. 1

Because the suspect is a youth, RCMP say no identifying information can be released. Investigators confirm the individual remains in custody pending a bail hearing. 2

According to police, the investigation began after officers were notified of a re-posted TikTok video referencing threats toward schools, with captions suggesting Peace River could be next. RCMP immediately began working with school officials, reviewed lockdown procedures and increased patrols in the area. 3

RCMP say there is currently no indication of an imminent threat to a specific location, but officers continue to monitor social media and follow up on incoming tips. 4

“This investigation has been taken seriously from the start,” said Sgt. Brennan Willenborg, adding police will continue working closely with schools and community partners to mitigate any potential risk as the investigation continues. 5

Authorities also acknowledged the stress these types of incidents can have on families, noting school attendance decisions remain at the discretion of parents and guardians.
