Each year, the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede features a diverse lineup of food vendors, all aiming to make sure no one leaves the grounds hungry.

From old favorites to exciting new vendors, this year’s fall fair offers something to satisfy every taste, with more than 25 food stands to choose from.

Jacy Cavanagh, owner of Magic Poppins, is making her Dawson Creek debut selling chips made from potatoes, wheat, and corn flour. She said her snacks are already a hit with kids.

Cavanagh pre-seasons her chips and bags her chips to offer a “grab-and-go” concept. “I have salt and vinegar, dill pickle, sour cream and onion, parm and garlic, a bit of a mix for everybody,” she said.

Magic Poppins isn’t the only food stand drawing a crowd of young fairgoers. A returning favourite, Hawaiian Shave Ice, is back for another edition of the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede.

Shave ice is a colorful iced-based dessert made with different flavours of sweet syrups. The owner, Allan Kormilo, said the cold drink is a great hit with kids in sunny weather.

Kormilo offers 14 flavours to choose from, and he says blue raspberry and cherry are the most popular at every show. He added the Dawson Creek stop is the biggest of the year. “We’re super happy to be here. We love Dawson Creek,” he said.

South Peace River MLA Larry Neufeld also has a booth at the fair and said he loves all the food options offered to stampede goers this year.

“The opportunity to sample so many different types of food and so many menus in one place is amazing,” he said.

The food and trade fair opens at 8 am from Thursday to Saturday, and at 9 am on Sunday.
