A Fort St. John construction company has been fined more than $30,000 by WorkSafeBC after inspectors found what the agency described as repeated high-risk safety violations at a local worksite.

According to WorkSafeBC, Northern Legendary Construction Ltd. was issued a penalty of $30,535.52 following an inspection conducted at a construction site in Fort St. John. The penalty was imposed on April 23, 2026.

WorkSafeBC said inspectors observed scaffolding positioned too close to the edge of an excavation. The agency also found the excavation had not been reviewed by a qualified professional and that sections of the excavation walls were left vertical, creating a risk of collapse.

The regulatory agency said the company failed to ensure the excavation was properly sloped, shored, or otherwise supported before workers entered the area, a requirement under workplace safety regulations. WorkSafeBC classified the issue as a high-risk violation.

Inspectors also found excavation work was not being carried out in accordance with the written instructions of a qualified registered professional, despite a nearby structure being adjacent to the excavation.

WorkSafeBC noted the violations were repeated, contributing to the financial penalty issued against the company.
