WorkSafeBC has issued a pair of fines to two construction firms at worksites in Moberly Lake and Dawson Creek.
The agency has imposed a fine of nearly $29,500 to C. Chandler, operating as Contracting Celtic Construction LTD., for repeated violations.
The firm was the prime contractor of a residential construction site in Moberly Lake, where WorkSafeBC observed many safety violations.
The agency says it observed deficiencies with a set of temporary stairs, which were the only access point to the building. The firm’s failure to ensure a safe way of entering and leaving the workspace is considered a high-risk violation.
In addition, the designated first-aid attendant was not on site, and workers did not have his contact information.
Another firm, Raptor Mountain Roofing, received a smaller fine of $5,000 for work on a Dawson Creek home.
WorkSafeBC says it observed three workers on a sloped roof with their fall-protection harnesses not connected to lifelines.
No other fall protection was in place, creating a fall risk greater than three metres and resulting in a repeated and high-risk violation.
