As tax season approaches, the Women’s Resource Society in Fort St. John is once again offering support to low-income earners and their families with the filing process.
In partnership with MNP, the non-profit is hosting a free tax clinic on April 5th at the Healing Centre on 96th Street.
The clinic aims to help residents maximize their tax benefits and ease the financial challenges of tax preparation.
“We’ve been providing this free tax clinic since 2017 and take pride in continuing to assist low-income families in Fort St. John,” said Tara Waddy, CPA, CA, and Partner at MNP.
To be eligible, participants must not be self-employed or filing business or investment returns, and their annual family income must not exceed $42,000, with an additional $2,000 allowed for each dependent child.
The 15-minute sessions are available by appointment only, with returns completed online. Participants are required to provide a photo ID and their 2024 T4 or T5007 forms.
Newcomers to the country must also report their 2024 income from their country of origin, converted into Canadian dollars.
“With limited spots available, we encourage individuals to schedule their appointments promptly,” said the society in a release.
Interested residents can book their session by contacting the Women’s Resource Society reception desk at 250-787-1121.
Last year, this initiative helped 51 community members successfully file their tax returns.
